Some 150 law enforcemnt officers are killed in the line of duty each year leaving their families and co-workers to cope with the tragic loss.
Losing two of its own in 2016, the Peach County Sheriff's Office knows first-hand the crippling pain that follows the senseless death of a deputy. Sergeant Patrick Sondron and Deputy Sheriff Daryl Smallwood were shot and killed when they responded to a neighbor dispute on Hardison Road, near Route 42, near Byron, on November 6, 2016 around 5:30 p.m. They are just two of the hundreds of officers honored on the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP).
The Officer Down Memorial Page is website operated by a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring America's fallen law enforcement heroes. More than 22,000 officers have made the ultimate sacrifice in the United States since 1791, and it is with great honor that the ODMP preserves their memories within its pages.
The countless stories of selfless courage and heroism exhibited by officers who lost their lives while serving and protecting the citizens of this great nation are a testament to the dedication of those men and women who wear the badge.
It is the hope of all those involved with the ODMP that each name added to the site will be the last. Until and after that day comes the ODMP are committed to honoring those souls who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of justice.
